The New England Patriots announced Thursday that they have waived defensive end Dontrell Leach, wide receivers Jabaale Ellis and Dion Jordan and offensive tackle J.T. Thomas, according to the team.
In addition, the team announced the release of wide receiver J.J. Williams.
The Patriots announced Friday that they had placed wide receiver Jermaine Kearse on injured reserve, and that they placed linebacker Jonathan Freeny on reserve/injured reserve.
Williams was signed by the Patriots in 2015 and spent four seasons with them.
He was released in December 2018.
Freenys release does not affect his 2018 roster.
New England’s defensive line has been a major problem this season.
In 2017, the Patriots had the league’s fourth-worst run defense.
They allowed a league-high 28.1 yards per carry.
New York also allowed just 3.5 yards per rush and 3.2 yards per completion.
